Two things Hangzhou does better than anywhere else, in one cup.

Longjing from Meijiawu -- one of West Lake's most storied tea villages, the origin of some of the finest Longjing grown. Scented with fresh osmanthus at the peak of autumn bloom, when the flowers are at their most fragrant and the season is exactly right for both.

This combination only exists once a year. When osmanthus blooms, Longjing is there to catch it.

What's in the cup

Meijiawu Longjing (梅家坞龙井) is West Lake terroir -- the flat pan-fired leaves, the toasted chestnut base, the clean sweetness that defines the style. The autumn osmanthus scenting adds a honey-floral layer that sits on top of all of that without covering it.

The result is a cup that's fresh and warm at once. Green tea clarity with an autumn fragrance. Pale yellow-green liquor, golden with osmanthus, the flowers still visible in the leaf.

Good for

— Stressed, overwhelmed -- osmanthus fragrance is immediately calming; Longjing's L-theanine does the rest

— Can't focus -- clean green tea clarity with something warm underneath

— Emotionally flat -- this tea has a specific mood: Hangzhou in October, which is a good mood to borrow

— Low, sad -- sweetness and fragrance together, neither one overpowering

Tasting notes

— Fragrance: osmanthus honey over toasted green tea, warm and layered

— Liquor: pale yellow-green, golden-tinged

— Sip: fresh, smooth, floral-sweet finish

— Finish: osmanthus lingers, clean

— Resteepable: 3--4 steeps, fragrance holds
