🍃 A Note from Man Hua — Why This Tea

"I learned to read terroir before I learned to read markets — the volcanic cliffs of Fujian, the ancient forests of Yunnan. This Silver Needle from Fuding, Fujian is the origin of white tea itself, and these wild-grown trees answer only to the seasons. Seven years of patient aging is not a selling point to me; it is a philosophy. At TEAGOODTEA, we source what we believe in, not what sells easily — and this tea is one I believe in deeply."

What You're Holding

Thirty grams of time.

This Silver Needle was harvested in 2017 from wild-growing (荒野) tea trees in Fuding, Fujian — trees that have been left to grow without cultivation, chemical intervention, or human interference. Each bud is large, densely covered in silver-white down, and carries the unhurried energy of a plant that answers only to the seasons.

Seven years of natural aging have transformed the fresh, grassy brightness of new white tea into something quieter and more complex: honey-sweet on the nose, clean and smooth on the palate, with a lingering warmth that settles rather than excites.

What Makes This Rare

Wild-grown (荒野) tea is categorically different from plantation-grown tea. These trees are not pruned, fertilized, or harvested on a schedule. They grow deep root systems, absorb minerals from undisturbed soil, and produce buds with a flavor complexity that managed cultivation simply cannot replicate.

Fuding is the origin of white tea. This is not a regional interpretation — this is the source.

The 2017 vintage sits at a meaningful threshold: old enough to have developed the characteristic aged white tea depth, young enough to retain the delicate sweetness and floral clarity that define great Silver Needle. The leaf appearance confirms its quality — yellow-green with natural amber browning at the tips, intact buds, white down still present and generous.

In the Cup

The liquor is pale gold, clear and luminous. The aroma opens with dried flowers and wild honey, with a subtle woody base that speaks to its years of rest. The taste is smooth and round — sweet without sweetness being the point, clean without being thin. There is no astringency, no bitterness, no edge. Just a tea that knows what it is.

It brews beautifully with water around 85–90°C. Gaiwan or a small glass teapot lets you watch the buds slowly unfurl. Multiple infusions, each slightly different — this is a tea worth spending an afternoon with.

Sourced With Intention

TEAGOODTEA works directly with Fuding producers. We source what we believe in, not what sells easily. This Silver Needle is offered in a limited quantity because that is what we have, and we see no reason to hold it back from people who will genuinely appreciate it.

A Note on Price

Wild-grown aged white tea of this grade is not abundant. The trees are not managed for yield. The aging requires time and proper conditions. What you are paying for is specificity — a particular place, a particular year, a particular way of growing — and the years of patience between harvest and cup.
